Resurrected for posterity

October 10th, 2006We’re back!
Home safely and with all of our Lebkuchen.
Sydney Transit Lounge
October 9th, 2006We are almost home. Sydney security was not as bad as it was on our flight out. We are boarding in 20 minutes and so the only task left is to get through NZ customs. That may take a while.
Dubai Transt Lounge
October 9th, 2006We are in Dubai sitting in the transit lounge waiting for our connecting flight to Christchurch via Sydney (probably). It’s 27 degrees outside but cool in the huge duty free shopping centre. The flight from Germany was ok but it’s hard not too feel blahh after traveling.
All our German chocolate is still intact. We are not so hopeful of getting everything through Sydney though after our experience last time.
SMS Post
October 8th, 2006Goodbye europe. We are about to take off from munnich. Luckily all of our german chocolate has made it through security.

Back in Sonthofen
September 26th, 2006Hello,
We have finished our oddest cycle touring trip yet and are back in Sonthofen for the last time. It’s only twelve days before we fly back to New Zealand.

Oddly familiar
September 23rd, 2006As I went to buy a souvenir today I noticed that my wallet was no longer in my pocket… Spent a couple of hours in the police station. Hmmm…. oddly familiar. Sadly we had just transfered our entire collection of Euros to my wallet. To avoid excessive ATM fees we will spend the rest of our time in Vienna using the small change we have left and then the key deposits from the youth hostel we are staying at when we check out. Mahh.
Vienna
September 22nd, 2006We’ve made it to Vienna and are staying in hostel Rueffensteiner.
An interesting little story: We struggled to find the hostel at first so Gina asked a nice young man on a park bench for directions. When she approached him, however, he clutched his bags like she was going to steal them. Sometimes I wish we didn’t look so homeless.
Unrest in Budapest
September 21st, 2006
You may have seen it on the news, there have been riots here in Budapest over the last few days. I woke about 1 am last night to the sounds of shouting and sirens outside the youth hostel windows. Three stories below us were perhaps 100 riot police, many police cars and army trucks.
I think it is still safe here during the day but the rioting is meant to get worse over the weekend when other Hungarians from over the country come to Budapest. Luckily, we will be in Vienna.
Hello from Budapest
September 20th, 2006We have made it safely to Budapest and are staying in a youth hostel. We will be taking the train to Vienna tomorrow.

Trouble in Hungary
September 19th, 2006
Rainy day. Rode into Hungary and then back into Slovakia before heading back into Hungary again at the border crossing into Estergom.
Estergom is a really pretty town. We dumped our stuff at a camp site and then went and had chinese for lunch. We were hoping for a Hungarian restaurant but Chinese came first and we were hungry in Hungary.
