Brendanas has been visiting over the last few days. We went and saw the Cat Empire playing across the border live in Strasbourg, France on Thursday night. They sounded great live and it was a good evening out with Nico, and Philipp.

On Friday we threw Brendan into a MRI scanner to see if we could find his brain. It was a fruitless search. All we could find in there was a little man sitting in front of a bank of monitors pulling levers. We went out with Nick and Cecile who were visiting Julian on Friday night for some Indians. They taste nicer in numbers.
On Saturday we conquered Schauinsland by bike with Jakob.

Brendan and I had an extended breakfast with Jana and Julian on Sunday morning.
And that’s pretty much it…

After spending the night at my new flat in Freiburg, Frauke and I drove across the border to France and spent a night in the Vogesen mountains (hills). We went climbing at a crag named Gueberschwihr which was quite fun. We haven’t done a lot of climbing recently and have no finger strength. I lead a few climbs around the 5a, 5b mark and then we had had enough.

We camped in a little town in the evening. There was a wine festival there and at about 2am a lot of drunk French guys came out and started making lots of noise. Two of them came over to our tent. One poured a glass of beer over it and the other peed on the side of it. The French are so terribly charming.
The next day we went cycling for a few hours in the hills. It was ok but we were both still feeling a little unwell from our lingering colds and various ailments. We checked out Martinswand, another rock climbing crag in the afternoon but it was only 6 degrees and a nasty wind made it feel much colder. It was beginning to rain so we left without doing any climbing and headed back to Germany.

We donned our cycling rags today and headed form Julian and Jana’s out to a little vineyard that has a little restaurant where they serve homemade food. We lazed around there eating and chatting for a while before Ed, Em, Julian, and I headed to Breisach near the French border. We crossed the Rhine and swam in its muddy waters before heading back towards the flat in roadie style (bunch ride with little sprints). Ed had a mountain bike with nobbly tyres and had to grind the whole way while Em and Julian had road bikes and I had Julian’s commuter with slicks.
