More skiing this weekend. On Saturday we skiied in Lechtal in Austria. Frauke had picked a tour that headed up to a mountain named Galtjoch. The weather was fine and although we had patches of grass on our descent I thought the skiing was still pretty good. I would rate it as one of the best tours of the season.

On Sunday, Frauke, Marcus, and I went up Krinnenspitze in Tannheimer Tal. We had a steep descent down a gulley back onto the piste below.

Another weekend of ski touring in Allgaeu.

Julian, Jana, and I headed over to Allgäu last night to spend a weekend with Frauke. Brendan drove over from his new home in Regensburg, and Jakob “zugged” in as well.
Frauke had “ein volles Program” and so we headed out in the morning for our first activity, ski touring.

We swapped our touring skis for the narrower langlauf skis and headed out to the track for some uncoordinated flailing of the appendages (me) and some graceful gliding (those with German blood).
We then took a short break for a feed at the nearby guest house before some of us headed out for some night sledding. This should not to be confused with naked sledding despite the similar sounding german words. It was too cold for any of that nonsense.

Above: Cris with his trusty rusty contraption. It proved to be so rusty that sliding was at times difficult. This was good. I had a care for my safety unlike the maniacs below.

I spent Christmas in Allgaeu. The festivities involved going ski touring, going ski touring, and going ski touring. For variety we also went climbing. An ideal Christmas one might say.

Above: Touring on Christmas Eve. We headed up from Nesselwang on the piste to the top of the field. Frauke lagged behind as she was cunningly decorating a tree with Christmas decorations. On our descent she revealed her master piece. We supped glühwein and ate frozen gingerbread before skiing down with head-lamps blazing.
Below: Setting out on a tour. Waltraud came along and so did Frauke’s brother Flo and friend Dirk(y).

Frauke, Kathi, and I went for a walk in the snow in Allgaeu.
