RIG Schauinsland TT 2013

I dragged myself out of bed and headed to the start line for the RIG Schauinsland time trial. It was, being spring time in Freiburg, rather cold… At least that has been the pattern this spring and today was no different although it wasn’t raining! Aaaaamaaaazing.

There were 12 keen starters there at 9 am. My legs felt a little sluggish as I headed off as they didn’t seem to have recovered quite from the Tour de Kärnten and the Dolomites just yet. Despite this I puffed up the hill and was surprised when I looked at my speedo near the top and saw 36 minutes. Unfortunately I couldn’t push any harder along the flat section at the end but was still happy with my time of 38:15 (RIG time). This put me in 3rd place from the starters and in 3rd place overall for the RIG cup. The previous night’s alcohol seemed to have had a large negative impact on Marco as he would normally be a good bit faster than me on the climb. The time got me 6th place from 116 on Strava.

Above left: Jochen, Waltraud, Sebastian, Rebecca, and I went for a quick smash around the Schauinsland loipe on our cross country skis. The loipe was hard and the weather was nice and sunny. Yay. Unfortunately Seb seemed to be dying from some sort of lurgi and went home early.  Above right: There were patches of mist along the way but predominantly blue skies.

Ski tour Hinterwaldkopf Feb 2013

Leonie, Jakob, and I headed off around lunch time for some ski touring fun. We parked near Oberried with the plan to head up to Hinterwaldkopf. It had snowed heavily over the last 48 hours and the ground was covered in a very thick coating of at least 10 cm of powder. We skinned up to the summit, happily following some already made tracks. At the summit we faffed around for a little while before enjoying the delicious snow conditions on our descent.
