It\u2019s a hilly half marathon that\u2019s part of the three day Tour de Tirol. We\u2019re not silly so we stuck with just one day of the tour.<\/p>\n<p>We drove to the Kaiser mountains on Friday evening and spent Saturday in the sauna followed by a short walk up into the snow a bit. Sunday morning was very cold but at least it was dry-ish.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cris.lovell-smith.com\/trips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Leonie-running-Plven-trail.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"Leonie running (P\u00f6lven trail)\" src=\"https:\/\/cris.lovell-smith.com\/trips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Leonie-running-Plven-trail_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"Leonie running (P\u00f6lven trail)\" height=\"431\" width=\"644\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Above: Leonie and I ran the P\u00f6lven trail in the Kaiser mountains in Austria. It&#8217;s essentially a half marathon + a few km and has around 1200 m of climbing.<\/p>\n<p>Leonie and I set off together but I edged away after a while and stayed in front for the rest of the race. The cold seemed to suit me a bit and the muddy\/slippery technical descents were a treat. I loved the muddy technical trails. Leonie did not.<\/p>\n<p>I like the course. We did a big loop around a mountain and had some nice steep sections. The route was mostly on little trails.
