Hans and I went for a ski tour up to H\u00fcenerchopf in Switzerland. It\u2019s a tour we did once before with Johannes, although I\u2019d forgotten almost everything about it and surprisingly I don\u2019t seem to have a GPS track from the trip. Odd. Anyway\u2026<\/p>\n

It was already looking like spring time as we started our tour in Switzerland.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

It was sunny and warm for February. The snow was a bit sparse but there was enough to make do. We toured up the long gentle ascent, crossing over to the left and gaining a ridge below the summit. We dropped the skis and walked the last 20 or 30 vertical metres to the summit. There was no wind and the sun was still putting in its best appearance.<\/p>\n

H\u00fcenerchopf is an easy non-technical summit with very low avalanche danger.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We walked back down to our skis. I had my new K2 Waybacks and it was my first tour on them. I stamped into the pin bindings succeeding after a few attempts and we traversed back to the right, avoiding the grassy rocky bits. We switched back to the left traversing under the rocks. The snow wasn\u2019t great but at least there wasn\u2019t the dreaded breakable crust. I found a little bit of powder to ski and then we followed the many tracks back down to the main descent. The skiing was technical due to the number of bushes, rocks, and grass sticking out of the snow.<\/p>\n

The tour took about 3 hours in total and we then drove back to Lindau in sunshine.<\/p>\n

We headed back down to our skis picking our way along the mostly snow free track.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Then it was back down to the car. My legs burned on the way down reminding me I’d been cycling recently and hadn’t done much ski touring.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
