The weather was fairly rubbish. We wandered out to Monument Hut via South Huxley Hut where we stopped for lunch. Jeremy, Gina, Kieren and I went for a five hour car shuttle mission to get Kieren’s car in the evening.
The weather was so rubbish the next day that we spent the whole day hiding out in the hut, only to venture out to get bags of food from the car and water from the river.
Mikey and I ran out early the following day while the others drove. The river was up a lot and Jeremy drowned his car in a puddle that had turned into a small lake. Riegen pulled him out with his Hilux. The road was washed out near the South Temple Valley so we spent some time at the shelter waiting for the rain to ease and when we checked next a digger had made the road passable again.
We drove to Twizel where I met Simon and William. Most of the others headed back to Christchurch with a car load heading into Mt Cook. Simon, William, and I went and camped the night next to Lake Pukaki near where Leonie and I had camped a year a go.
