We picked Johannes up from the train station in Radstadt in the morning. Initially we’d planned a multipitch route in the Dachstein mountains but the weather forecast predicted possible rain and an electrical storm for the afternoon so we went for Plan B instead. This was to drive to the Gosausee, a lake on the North side of the mountains, and do a ferrata route. We arrived at the lake, parked, and followed the track around the side of the lake. We pulled on our harnesses and walked down to the start of the Laserer alpin Klettersteig, just above the lake. Following the steel cable we traversed around the cliff above the blue water, feet sliding occasionally on the polished foot holds. It’s a nice ferrata with a rope ladder that climbs up past the walking track at the side of the lake, a couple of C sections, and a rope bridge.

We followed up the klettersteig with a swim in the lake. The water was cool and refreshing and the view up to the Dachstein mountains was very nice.

After an ice cream we drove a few km to a medley of klettersteig routes that have been erected by the same company. The weather was looking threatening and I felt a few spots as we started walking to the routes. We did an easy and quick route finishing as the rain became heavier. Then back to the car and back to Flachau.
