Slowly, over the last couple of years, Ari has been cultivating a small climbing group that meets once a week to climb indoors at one of Chris Sharma’s gyms. Arnau, one of the climbers in the group, has an apartment in the Pyrenees and we planned an autumn weekend away there for some socialising and climbing.
We drove there after work on Friday evening after I ran through the hills to catch a train to Terrassa and then continued running to meet Ari near her work at Ficosa in Villacavells. On arrival, I got to work on a curry with a Japanese curry paste that Anaïs had procured for me. Sasha and his wife Uliana arrived after a while and we ate dinner together. Later Milan and his girlfriend Karen arrived and the team was complete.

On Saturday we went climbing indoors to start with as the weather wasn’t great. Then we went for lunch in town and ended up at a restaurant serving crepes. Later, just before it began to get dark we went for a short walk in the cold evening.
Back at the apartment, Sasha and Uliana bbqed big chunks of marinated meat on the open fire and we ate them with bread and salad. Yum yum.
On Sunday we drove to France. The border was not far away and we stopped at a French bakery with delicious lemon tarts. It was sunnier than Saturday but still pretty chilly. We walked up into the hills to a rock climbing crag and spent some time there climbing.
