Day 2 of our road cycling sweatfest in Switzerland. It was extremely hot again although we had comfortable temperatures around 2000 m. We left extra late at midday to maximize the sweating and rode up to Albulapass. We had an awesome approximately 1400 m descent from the pass to the scorching valley below. We had a nice lake to our left on the descent and as it got steeper we cycled under an interesting rail bridge. We stopped on the descent for a delicious refreshing home made ice cream from a little shop in a railway carriage. We slogged along to Tiefencastel in the furnace where we began the ascent to Julierpass. This took some hours and the heat was sapping until we climbed high enough again. We stopped in small patches of shade on the way up. As we arrived at Lake Marmorera, I realised I had been there before with Gina during one of our cycling touring trips on our O.E. in 2006. We arrived at the summit around 7 pm and it was comfortably warm. We descended to St Moritz avoiding going into the town as much as possible before riding back to our camp site in Madulain. A very nice ride.
Above: We arrived at Julierpass at 7pm in the evening but of course being the middle of summer it was still light.
The following day we went walking in the hills for a few hours to give our cycling legs a rest.
