Johannes and I hired a car and made our great escape. We drove to Furkajoch and went ski touring.  Johannes borrowed my old ski touring gear and we skinned up to the Hohe Matona. Last time I was here was in 2014. This time round the weather started off good but deteriorated until we had the dreaded flat light at the summit. Johannes waited at the ski depot while I went up to the cross. As I was walking back down being careful not to topple over the rock wall into the valley below I saw a ski sliding off down the mountain. Apparently he had been unhappy with my old touring equipment and thought that he’d be better of descending on one ski. Either that or the lack of ski brakes had caught him out. We collected the ski and descended into a white out. I used my trusty Garmin Fenix 2 to follow our route down (as was the case in Norway last year) and after a while we came out of the mist into the land of grey below. The snow was quite nice to descend on. It was soft and a bit slushy like spring snow.
