Johannes flew to Barcelona and Ari, Anaïs, and I drove South to Valencia. We had booked an interesting looking Air BnB in the coastal town named Calp. It was the La Muralla Roja designed by the architect Ricardo Bofill and was an amazing blocky pink thing that I liked the look of.

This first day was just driving to get there but on our second day we went climbing at a crag about a 10 minute drive from our accommodation. We were climbing on rocks with the coast line far below. The day was pretty successful but in the evening I started to feel ill and spent the following day not up to very much at all while Ari also became ill. Johannes and I went for a walk on the following day to the peninsula at the end of the town and in the late afternoon we went climbing. Ari still wasn’t quite right on the following day, in fact I started to get a bit concerned about her when she began claiming that the rice she’d made was sweet despite having only added salt to it. After some sleuth work we discovered that someone had added sugar to the bag of salt we’d found in the apartment! Johannes and I climbed again. It was sunny and warm (as always) and we did some sport climbs and an easy multipitch. We celebrated New Year’s in the evening, with our own tapas style meal and Catalan music. We ate our 12 grapes at midnight and then went up to the swimming pool (!) on top of the flat and watched a few fireworks.

It was already over on New Year’s day and we drove back North to Barcelona.
