After deciding the dolomites would be too cold and that Lago di Garda might be too wet we decided to brave the traffic and drove to Lago di Lecco which resulted in us spending most of Thursday trying to get there. After battling the traffic, with a bit of luck we managed to find a camp site that wasn’t fully booked.

We spent Friday climbing at a sports crag near Lecco. There were lots of nice climbs in easy grades. We did a double pitch route. Leonie tried out abseiling and in the evening Craig and I did 2.5 pitches of a longer route. I lead the first pitch which was  an easy 3c or something similar but only had two bolts in the entire 30 metres. Craig lead the second pitch and I got lost on the third pitch and stumbled on a 6-something before giving up. Craig had a go and ended up abseiling off the top bolt. We then “simul-seiled” the two pitches back down.

On the way back down the hill the car started over heating and we limped back to our trusty camp site and begged for a place to stay. The guy hooked us up with a caravan as there was otherwise no space.

We spent Saturday morning trying to get the car sorted. The car was towed away and luckily as Craig was fairly certain what the problem was they fixed it in a few hours and it was returned to us. Just in time for us to make a 4 pm “alpine” start into the hills behind the camp site. Leonie and I did a via ferrata/walking route while craig emptied is stomach a couple of times and felt quite ill. He returned to camp from half way and we ascended to the summit before heading back down arriving just after dark.

On Sunday we went for a walk in the hills above Lecco. We found a few scrambly bits and ended up on a summit at 2180 m. In the evening we drove to Switzerland and stayed the night there.

On Monday, Craig and I did the Indianer Klettersteig and then he took the train to the airport and Leonie and I drove home.
