S.H. 2016 –Day 13 – Mangart take 2

The weather was good and after some deliberating we decided to cycle up the road we had driven up yesterday to the base of the mountain Mangart. It was a nice ride with a few tunnels along the way to keep things interesting. The view from the road is fantastic.

Leonie headed back to Trenta and I cycled the long way back via Tarvisio in Italy and then along the Alpe Adria cycle way to Kranjska Gora followed by a very nice climb up Vršič Pass. The mountains were looking perfect. It’s such a nice area.

S.H. 2016 – Day 12 – Mangart

We headed off before breakfast to Bovec where we grabbed some goodies before driving up Slovenia’s highest road to the foot of Mangart on the Italian border. We had breakfast in the car park and then headed off with the intention of climbing Mangart by the easier Italian route. The other option would have been the Slovenian via ferrata.

We didn’t get particularly far before the mist came in and then we met some people who had turned around due to snow so I went ahead and checked out the route. There was a section that was very exposed but probably quite doable, however, we decided to head back down rather than risk it.

S.H. 2016 – Day 9 – Back to Trenta

We walked out from the biv in the morning ascending to the Luknjo pass and then meeting the rain on the way down the valley to Trenta.

In the evening we went for a short road ride and caught some more rain on the way back.
