Leonie and I thumbed a lift out to St Wilhelm in the afternoon and set off on a ski tour up to Stübenwasen. The snow was thick and fluffy as we skinned our way up through the forest and then through the open basin to the Katzensteig. This is a steep and narrow ascent boarded by forest on either side that leads up to Stübenwasen. We persevered until we came out into the sun on the Stübenwasen loipe.  Due to our poor planning we hadn’t arranged a way to get home and so undecided about the best thing to do we headed towards Feldberg. An hour or so later we decided this wasn’t the best thing to do and unsure which descent would end at a bus stop we took the safe route and skied back to Notschrei via the cross country skiing track. Ohh noooo we missed out on our delicious descent back down to St Wilhelm. Oh well, at least we got back to Freiburg ok.
