It was a long weekend. Leonie and I drove to Italy on Thursday evening arriving before dark and finding Markus and Angela in Prato, Süd Tirol. On Friday, Markus, Leonie, and I jumped on our road bikes and road slowly up Stelvio Pass in the heat. My heart rate was still higher than it normally is but I was pleased to make it to the top. We grabbed a bite to eat at a restaurant a little further away from the bulk of the crowds. Then we descended via Umbrail Pass and completed the loop back to Prato. We had a nice descent and a fun ride back in hot and reasonably windy conditions.
On Saturday Leonie and I drove into the hills a bit and walked up to the Düsseldorfer Hütte where we stayed the night and drank hot chocolates while a storm came through.
On Sunday we walked back to the car via a 3200 m high peak named Schöneck. There was a little bit of scrambling and walking in snow but not too much. It was even warm enough to stand in T-shirts and shorts at the summit.
Above left: Leonie and I drove down to South Tirol on Thursday evening and met Angela and Markus there. Markus, Leonie, and I rode up Stelvio Pass on Saturday morning and returned via the valley on the other side. It was toasty warm and a good ride. I managed ok after my operation but my heart rate was higher than normal. Above right: It was a long ascent.
Above left: But we managed some posing at the summit. Above right: Of course we had to bag Umbrail pass too.
Above left: On Saturday Leonie and I walked up to the Düsseldorfer Hütte and stayed the night there. It stormed a bit after lunch so we hid in the hut. Above right: On Sunday we headed back down via a mountain on the way. The weather was fantastic and there was nobody around, just some inquisitive sheep.
Above left: Some posing was done. Above right: Some bashing through patches of snow was required.
Above left: But we made it to the top. Above middle: And the top was Schöneck at 3129 m. Extremely warm considering how high we were. Above right: We walked back down to the valley and drove back to Lindau.
