Day 23
I went for a short ride to the kiwi and after much faffing around we headed off from Christchurch mid afternoon. We got to Lake Tekapo in sunshine and aaaaallllott of wind. A few photos at the lake and we continued to Lake Pukaki. The wind was very strong here too and we took some blustery photos by the lake looking towards where Mt Cook should have been. It wasn’t though as the clouds were obscuring it. We found a sheltered spot behind a hill and some trees to cook up a tasty curry for dinner before driving the rest of the way to our Air BnB in Lake Hawea for the night.
Above: We couldn’t wait forever for a perfect weather forecast so we headed off South to Lake Tekapo and then onwards to Pukaki where we cooked dinner by the lake. Mt Cook was not to be seen with bad weather at the head of the lake. There was a very strong wind coming down the lake but we were able to shelter around the side of the hill while we made dinner. We drove on to Wanaka arriving under stars late at night.
Above: We arrived at our Air BnB late in the evening.
Day 24
Although there had been stars as we arrived last night it had started to rain in the early morning. This was what had been predicted. It stopped a briefly and there was even a little bit of sun amongst the grey but then the rain returned and hung around all day. We didn’t do much. We drove into Wanaka for a bit.
